Mayor of Newark Wants Taxpayer-Funded Retreat

Campaign for Liberty

The Mayor and City Administration of the city of Newark are attempting to spend thousands of taxpayer dollars to take a vacation together.

It’s called a “retreat,” and their stated intent is to improve cooperation between the unelected city staff and the elected council members who are to represent the citizens.

You and I both know what that means.  We can read between the lines.

When legislators start reacting to our activism and don’t bend and bow to every demand of the bureaucrats, the Establishment reaches into their bag of tricks to figure out how to get back to the status quo

In Newark, our activists and other citizens have really stepped things up over the last year.  They’ve exposed some of the worst stories of cronyism and corruption between the elected City Council Members and the unelected City Administration.

Certain council members have lost their rubberstamp for the city bureaucracy and the political elite are fuming about it – tax hikes have been shot down and attempts to increase salaries for the mayor and council have failed.

We even defeated the Rain Tax.

And there’s no end to the swirling cloud of corporatism that hangs over the data center and power plant drama.

Now, the Mayor and City Administration want to whip a few council members back into line.  Two years ago, every vote on the Newark Council was 7 – 0.  Now, votes are coming out 5 – 2 and 4 – 3.

They will not stand for this much dissent.  It’s time for an indoctrination field trip.

The proposed retreat is on the agenda for the Newark City Council Meeting on Monday, June 9th, at 7:00 p.m

We need to be in attendance for that meeting.  Show up at6:30 p.m. and get your name on the list for 2 minutes of speaking time during public comment at the start of the meeting.

Tell the Mayor and her friends in the City Administration that a taxpayer-funded getaway is not a responsible way to spend our money.

P.S. The Newark Mayor and City Administration are furious that some council members have been choosing to uphold the Constitution and represent the needs and views of their constituents.

So, now they’re plotting to drag those council members on a lavish retreat to strong arm those council members into playing ball – funded by your taxpayer dollars.

Please join us to address this Newark City Council agenda item on Monday, June 9th, at the Newark Municipal Building on 220 South Main Street in Newark, at 7:00 p.m.
